Reading Blogs - Really Simple RSS

Most of us are used to visiting web pages to view information. This source of information, however, remains fairly static.

A more dynamic source of web publishing is Web Logs or BLOGS. This provides an opportunity for authors to publish regular updates on their topic of interest. This is also referred to as RSS (Really Simple Syndication / RDF Site Summary / Rich Site Summary).

Although you can visit each blogger's web site to see their latest articles, a more convenient method is to use a Blog Reader (sometimes referred to as Feed Aggregator) which gathers the latest blogs from a variety of sources.

These can either be programs installed on your computer, or web-based. An example of the latter is Google Reader, which is free to use once you have created a Google account.

To use a Blog Reader to view articles from this blog, for example, click the links under 'Subscribe To This Blog', which quickly sets up a subscription to any of the major Readers.

How do you find good blog sources? Check your favourite web pages - there will often be a link to blogs by their authors, or suggestions for related blogs. There are some blogs which rank popular blogs from many sources, such as Technorati or Digg.

Happy Blog Reading!
