After the recent devastating events in Victoria, we have highlighted aspects of Bushfires in Australia in a display, including measures to take to prevent damage to your property.

Titanic - the legendary maritime disaster

The Titanic was a British registered four funnelled ocean liner built for the transatlantic passenger and mail service between Southampton and New York.

Constructed at the Harland and Wolff shipyard in Belfast, Northern Ireland she was, at the time of her maiden voyage, the largest vessel afloat.

On April 10th 1912 the Titanic set sail from Southampton with 2,200 passengers and crew, four days later the Titanic collided with an iceberg and sank. 1500 people died and 700 survived. Our display attempts to tell their story and that of the great ship with which their fate would be inextricably linked.

We also look at the re-development of the docklands at Belfast, named after the ship.

Man of many parts - Donald Westlake

This prolific author died late last year, and was hailed in many quarters for his contribution to mystery fiction, writing under 14 pseudonyms, including Richard Stark, and Tucker Coe.

Writing as Morgan Cunningham, the cover blurb cheekily states: "I wish I had written this book!" - Donald E. Westlake.

From Wikipedia:
Donald Westlake was known for the great ingenuity of his plots and the audacity of his gimmicks. His writing and dialogue were lively. His main characters were fully rounded, believable, and clever. Westlake's most famous characters include the hard-boiled criminal Parker (appearing in fiction under the Richard Stark pseudonym) and Parker's comic flip-side John Dortmunder, the hard-luck criminal genius who originally began as Parker getting caught in a comic situation in the 1970 novel The Hot Rock.

His books include:
* Don't ask
* Smoke
* Baby, would I lie ? : a romance of the Ozarks
* What's the worst that could happen?
* Humans
* Somebody owes me money
* The ax
* Kahawa

Come in and see our display of his books.
